The New Jersey State Senate was supposed to vote on the marriage equality legislation tomorrow. But, we just learned that the vote has been postponed, at the request of the bill's sponsors, while the Assembly begins considering the bill:
A state Senate vote on legalizing same-sex marriage in New Jersey is expected to be delayed, its two prime sponsors said today. From what I hear, this is a good thing. Garden State Equality supports the delay.
Sens. Ray Lesniak (D-Union) and Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) said the bill -- which was up for passage on Thursday -- instead will likely be introduced in the Assembly Judiciary Committee in preparation for a vote by the lower house.
This gives more time for everyone from New Jersey to contact your Senators and Assembly Members. Garden State Equality has the contact info. here. Make the calls and have your family and friends call, too. Be polite and firm when you ask them to support marriage equality. It's vital. They have to hear from our side.
