Eiffel Tower goes rainbow for a very gay 14th Juillet

My friend Philippe Lasnier in Paris posted some wonderful photos of the fireworks show at the Eiffel Tower tonight to celebrate France’s Independence Day, the 14th of July.

The Eiffel Tower was lit up in the colors of the rainbow to honor France’s legalization of gay marriage this year.

While the majority of the French support gay marriage, a very loud minority, organized by the Catholic church and France’s version of the Republican party (working in cahoots with America’s religious right) have held a series of violent protests against the new law.  The coalition was quickly infiltrated by far-right extremists, some of whom, like the anti-gay activist group Hommen, have a penchant for protesting half-naked in the gayest manner possible.

Still, the homophobes, the Christianists and the conservatives couldn’t stop liberty from coming.  They seldom can.

    14 juillet — l’égalité pour tous!

I’m surprised the Manif pour tous crowd made such a big deal over this since the words to the song clearly indicate it’s dedicated to Nelson Mandela.

Next thing you know they will want to ban rainbows over Paris. Must be driving them insane — okay, more insane — to be living in a city that elected an openly gay mayor more than 12 years ago and he’s still in office!

And lets never forget that the head catholic bishop of France called for / encouraged civil war if France passed Marriage Equality. The churcch has leaned nothing from its first great scandal – the HOly inquisition of torture and murder

And still has a lot to learn from its second great scandal – the endless hidden molestation of kids by its sex starved, prison control mentality priests

BTW antoehr scandal – the church could help to very quickly end most abortions – simply embrace birth control – condoms and the pill. Every poll I saw a couple years ago when this became a big issue- 94% to 98% of catholics ADMITTED using artificial birth control

The anti-equality crowd in France made an embarrassing, failed attempt to stop the hands of time. The French public has clearly moved on. Much the same in the U.S. On to Illinois, Oregon, Hawaii, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Supreme Court (Hollingsworth v. Perry 2.0).
