Various stories you might have missed today…

Here are various news stories I never got to write about today, but are worth perusing.

John Boehner’s debt ceiling plan is insane.

GOP Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli really hates gay people.

Robert Reich tells Bill O’Reilly to be a man.

George HW Bush (the older one, not the idiot) served as a witness at the wedding of a gay couple.

Paris’ famed Musée d’Orsay is doing an exhibit on the male nude.

26 hilariously-bad book covers.

CNBC being racist.

5 mistakes people make with salt in recipes.

A Russian parents group wants Putin to cancel Elton John’s upcoming concert in Russia cuz he’s too gay (John, not Putin – well…)

Azerbaijan holds first LGBT Pride.

David Lebovitz’s recipe for Ginger Syrup. I just made it.  Depending on how much you boil it down, you might want to add less of the syrup when reconstituting the drink.  But it’s quite good.

My actual work in progress - I added half the sugar, which was still enough.

He has, after all, been the most successful failure among Speakers in American history.

  3. karmanot says:

    Worse, it follows the gelding.

Rewriting personal histories is a cottage industry these days. For example, George & Barbara Bush proudly attended the same sex marriage of a lesbian couple they know. Aren’t they gracious? Oh, myyy!

  5. Bill_Perdue says:

In this case it’s after they’ve sold themselves and need a new angle to get elected (Obama) or rewrite their history as bigots (the Bushes and the Clintons).

  6. ArthurH says:

Don’t expect Bill O’Reilly to engage in any meaningful debate with Robert Reich. In his years of controlling the content of his TV and radio programs, O’Reilly has dulled his debating skills. Remember the time when at a book marketing conference Al Franken got in a zinger at O’Reilly’s expense? O’Reilly reflexively started mumbling like he was talking to his producer, which allowed Franken to issue a topper, “Sorry, Bill. You can’t pull the plug on me. You’re not on your show.”

It opened on September 24 and goes through the beginning of January.

  8. Oh wow, missed that

  9. Indigo says:

Rebranding. That isn’t exactly the same as rebranding cattle after they’ve been sold, is it?

  10. Hue-Man says:

“Monarch butterflies appear headed for a perhaps unprecedented population crash, according to scientists and monarch watchers who have been keeping tabs on the species in their main summer home in Eastern and Central North America.”

Headlne: “Point Pelee National Park cancels monarch butterfly count”
“Chip Taylor of Monarch Watch says that “in the Midwest, we’re seeing a tremendous loss of habitat due to the type of agriculture that’s been adopted here, [like] Roundup-ready corn and soybeans, which has taken the milkweeds out of those row crops. We’re seeing overzealous management of roadside marshes, excessive use of herbicides here and there.””

John how could you miss mention of the opening of the nude guy show at the Musee d’Orsay? With video.

  12. Bill_Perdue says:

Another Republican tries to rebrand. It seems to be all the rage among Democrat and Republican bigots.

  13. Phil says:

    He’s into being humiliated?

  14. MyrddinWilt says:

The GOP has as much chance of winning the Obamacare showdown as the New York Yankees have of winning the American League East this year. It is not absolutely impossible but would require something utterly bizarre (like the Red Sox being disqualified).

But we have to cover it because there is a real risk that the Republican suicide pact will turn out to be murder-suicide and take the country with them. It is all so stupid.

The greatest mystery in DC right now is why Boehner wants the speakers job.
