Even Chick-fil-A not anti-gay enough for conservatives anymore

Chick-fil-A has conservatives feeling some kind of way this week. Not the usual “love the smell of bigotry and biscuits in the morning” kind of way, but rather the “burn the heretic for actually being pro-gay” kind of way.

You see, they’ve done some snooping on the Interwebs and found out that the ravenously anti-gay company is listed as a sponsor for Level Ground’s annual LGBT Christian film festival. And those colors don’t run. As concerned Christian Steven Policastro wrote in a Change.org petition, titled “CFA Goes Gay, Corporate Needs to Know!“:

Per our research and findings, Chick-fil-A is a sponsor of “On Level Ground” (www.OnLevelGround.org) which is “a movement” that “creates space for dialogue about faith, gender, and sexuality through the arts.” And upon further inquiry, your sponsorship of this organization supports pro-gay organizations such as:

-The Christian Closet (gay-affirming Christian counseling)
-The Center For Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (promoting the gay agenda in Christian ministry)
-Therapists 4 Equality (LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy)
-The Reformation Project (an attempt to bring the gay agenda into the church’s theology)
-Believe Outloud (an organization to promote gender equality to Christian clergy)

and many other groups that promote an agenda which is contrary to Chick-fil-A’s corporate stance on Christian values regarding marriage and stewardship.

The petition stops short of accusing Chick-fil-A’s company as a whole of catching the queer, and instead assumes that this sponsorship has been arranged without corporate headquarters’ knowledge. Which is good, because that’s actually the case. The organization as a whole was not responsible for the sponsorship; one local franchise in Nashville, Tennessee was.

That hasn’t stopped conservative media from picking up on the story, warning that the bastion of Evangelical values from bigotry to heart disease is “Drifting Away from Traditional Values, Toward the Gay Agenda.”

One would forgive the oversight, save for the fact that this isn’t the first time a local Chick-fil-A has invited national conservative scrutiny for doing something that could possibly be construed as not-anti-gay. Last year, a franchise in Hollywood, California hosted an anti-bullying fundraiser. The previous year, that franchise was a sponsor at — you guessed it — Level Ground’s film festival.

So don’t worry, concerned Christians. Chick-fil-A is still consistently anti-gay. They just don’t force all of their franchises to be as ardently anti-gay as their national umbrella organization. If that represents a capitulation to the forces of evil, then fine. Good luck finding your hate wings elsewhere.

I enjoy the concept of “high-quality trolls.”

The name is for customers who do not want to much French in their choice of eateries.

  4. rwlorenz says:

This whole episode appears to be an exercise in good business. A franchise is attempting to attract customers and make more money. Doesn’t get any more American than that, except to the right-wing loons who consistently lose sight of sales and customers.

Well, it was a “Christian” film festival, after all. They’re pretty nutty there at Chick-Fil-A, as far as I’m concerned, but I’m told the chicken is tasty. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been there. But I am regularly reminded by Log Cabin acquaintances that some of their franchises are managed by gay men. So there! They’re Log Cabin boiz, I assume.

Oh, crap! “Chick-fil-A” = “Chick Fillet.” After all this, I just got it. I need to get into fast food more, I guess.

Jeez, give it a rest. You’ve been trolling on every article here this morning, and nobody’s bitten. Find some other place to amuse yourself, we only engage high-quality trolls.

You are not one of them.

I support the democrat’s rights to be as gay as they want to be.
