Sen. Levin: We have to do Defense bill this week if it’s going to pass at all

The Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee spoke on the Senate floor this morning about the importance of passing the Defense Authorization bill, which contains the DADT language. In order to get the bill through conference with the House, the Senate will need to move on the bill this week. Actually, the Senate should have moved on the bill in July. But no, the White House wanted to wait for the DADT study to be completed.

Note how Levin also says of the DADT language, “assuming we continue to keep it in the bill.” That sounds ominous.
I haven’t heard the President say how important the Defense Authorization bill is. You’d think the Commander-in-Chief would weigh in, since we’re in two wars.
