CPAC invites gun nut Wayne LaPierre, but bans conservative gay group

For the second year in a row, gay conservative group GOProud has been banned from the CPAC conference, the annual gathering of top conservatives in the nation.

“We got kicked out last year because we are gay,” tweeted GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia. “Nothing has changed. We won’t be at CPAC.”

While CPAC’s governing group decided to exclude the gay group from the event almost two years ago, the latest news remained stunning, considering the GOP’s recent attempts at inclusion following the party’s devastating loss in the 2012 presidential election, most notably among Latino, female, and gay voting blocs.

Perhaps even more humiliating for GOProud is the convention invitee list, which includes disgraced ex-Congressman Allen West, and NRA chief Wayne LaPierre.

Wayne LaPierre, head of the NRA.

While I’m not the biggest fan of GOProud (I think their executive director and press secretary both have me blocked on Twitter), I think it’s disgusting that they have been excluded from the event while CPAC gives a speaking invitation to a man who literally foamed at the mouth while in defense of guns immediately following the Newtown/Sandy Hook massacre.

More recently, the NRA’s LaPierre published a vile op-ed singling out Latinos as the main reason why “good” Americans (versus brown Americans?) along border-states need semi-automatic weapons. LaPierre falsely claimed that Latinos have “invaded” towns and caused kidnappings and crime in the region to skyrocket. In fact, they’ve mostly cleaned your homes and picked your fruit; invading blue-collar jobs that most “good”Americans simply aren’t willing to do.

Maybe CPAC can ask LaPierre to explain at the “Respecting Families and the Rule of Law: A Lasting Immigration Policy” panel why he and the Republican party don’t respect brown families (or pink ones, for that matter)?

The CPAC attendance of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Eric Cantor, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich legitimizes the convention as representative of the GOP platform’s ideas and ideals.  Make no mistake, this is “the” conservative conference of the year. And CPAC has made clear that there’s no still no room at the GOP Inn for anyone who’s out.

So now that CPAC got rid of the Gays I wanna know: is Tony Perkins of the ‘Family’ Research Council gonna show? He (along with the cold-turkeyish-former-prescription-med-addicts of the Concerned Women of America) boycotted CPAC in 2010ish ’cause of GoProud. This year, Phyllis Schlafly—the woman who’s arguably the most self-loathing, closeted feminist in Conservativille (just wouldn’t you know she has a gay son?) -is scheduled to speak.

I hope they stream it live. Unlike the passengers on the Carnival Triumph who had no choice, the CPAC people…well…I so want to watch them crap in their own bubble.

Agreed. What I wish people understood more is the part where you said Conservatives want gay people dead. Most people I don’t think realize that. It is something they try to keep hidden. It needs to be exposed more like their love of all things “legitimate rape”.

  3. Mighty says:

I don’t feel any sympathy for GOPuke. In fact I have nothing but contempt and loathing for them.

  4. ericxdc says:

well, on banning goproud cpac and I see eye to eye.

    On everything else, we disagree.

Something about gay Kristallnacht rings a bell.

  6. karmanot says:

My guess is that the Loggers know so many closet cases in the GOP they think they are accepted, considering their self hatred as a form of conservatism.

I’m thinking Nazi collaborators, who thought they were patriots. And, before anyone brings up Godwin’s Law, consider this: Godwin’s law is a propaganda tool and has absolutely no validity.

  8. Skeptical Cicada says:

No, the party makes them support the Federal Marriage Amendment from a distance.

  9. Ben L. says:

I’m just curious… will the Log Cabin Republicans be there?

  10. Skeptical Cicada says:

“GOProud” is a partisan group, not a gay group.

Discrimination against it is no concern of the gay-rights movement.

If it has a problem, it can ask for help from Mitt Romney, Ann Coulter, and its twin, the Log Cabin Republicans.

  11. S1AMER says:

Well, at least they didn’t invite the gun extremists to shoot the gay right-wingers (not yet, anyhow), so that’s something.

  12. Max_1 says:

    You know what’s more crazy?
… Gay Conservatives that keep thinking the GOP is on their side.

  13. BeccaM says:

I do wonder if they’ll ever realize they belong to a party that, in the long run, would prefer to throw them into jail for being gay and charged as having committed sexual deviancy crimes.

I’m thinking by now they ought to give up on the whole ‘Proud’ half of their name and simply go with GOP-GIMP.

  14. Corrie Gillikin says:

These people can’t get it through their heads that the GOP hates them, and wants nothing to do with them period. Why any LGBT person would want to be a part of the GOP just blows my mind. They must be be self-loathing and hate themselves to be a part of GOPROUD. It is stupid and they are not making any progress within the Party at all.

  15. How any gay can swear allegiance to a party that treats them as less than the scum of the earth is beyond comprehension.

  16. The gay part is easy. The republican part… no so much.

  18. Unfortunately there’s probably no reason at all why a homosexual citizen might still believe (say) in supply-side economics or the moral inferiority of poor persons. Still, the would-be Log Cabin Republican ought to realize that agreeing with 95% of GOP “principles” isn’t good enough to be accepted. It’s all or nothing.

  19. Do they get it now, that Republicans will NEVER welcome them to their Party? What an anomaly–‘Gay Republican.’ I’ll never understand it, either, Monoceros Forth.

  20. Pro Forma says:

I don’t understand why any self-respecting LGBT, black, Latino, female, or non-Christian would be in the GOP. Self-hate is he only conceivable explanation.

  21. nicho says:

This is like Jews complaining that they aren’t invited to a neo-Nazi meeting or blacks complaining that their Klan memberships are declined. Note to gays: Conseratives hate you and want you dead. Why are you trying to kiss their asses?

  22. “Well, the Republican Party officially considers me to be sub-human, but I don’t want to pay taxes!” I’ll never understand a gay Republican.
