Lady Gaga’s amazing a cappella Star Spangled Banner in NYC (video)

Lady Gaga sang an amazing a cappella version of the Star Spangled Banner at New York City’s LGBT / Gay Pride celebrations this past weekend.  Anyone in-the-know knows that this is not an easy song to sing.  And I wouldn’t want to do anything a cappella in front of a crowd.

Lisa Murphy was right near the stage and got this beautiful video.

it was disrespectful. if u want to support the gay’s then write your own song. very tacky to say the least

I’m really starting to hate my country, but that rendition sent shivers up and down my spine. Nicely done.

Tho’, if I had my ‘druthers, I’d make Woody Guthrie’s ‘This Land is Your Land’ the National Anthem.

  3. Butch1 says:

” . . . and the land for the gay.” Love it! ;-)

I will respect her when she stops wearing fur, and promoting the wearing of fur. She may be supportive of LGBT rights, but she does not care at all about the inhumane torture and abuse of millions of animals.

Tony Bennett says she’s a great singer. That’s good enough for me.
Her politics are just a bonus.

  6. emjayay says:

Great rendition. But I guess it’s a part of our American Idol/The Voice/America’s Got Talent culture that a lot of people felt it necessary to whoop and scream at evey trill and high note of the performance instead of actually listening and experiencing what she was doing. Also maybe the drinking and partying.

And wannabe politico Dr. Ben Carson.

As a 69 year old ‘old timer’ who has been in the music field all my life, that was one of the most beautiful renditions of the “Star Spangled Banner” I have had the honor of hearing. Beautifully and artistically done!!! You make me proud of you and my country. My gratitude to you!

It’s not like Gaga is going to sing the national that way all the time. She did it on that one occasion to celebrate a once-in-a-generation Supreme Court victory for civil rights. Can Allen West please take it historic context and cut Gaga a little slack? We’re so glad West lost his congressional seat in Florida and is now only making Fox News more irrelevant than it already is.

  10. FLL says:

People here in South Florida are so glad that Allen West is no longer representing any congressional district in Florida.

  11. Quilla says:

    Absolutely amazing. You go, girl!

  12. Monoceros Forth says:

Maybe they can cram an “under God” in there while they’re at it.

In other LGBT-related news, the ACLU is petitioning the New Mexico state Supreme Court to weigh in on same-sex marriage rights here in the post-DOMA era:

Pressure is mounting for the state Supreme Court to rule on same-sex marriage in New Mexico this time from the American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU also wants the court to clarify what the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision means for New Mexicans. Now, they’re basically asking the New Mexico Supreme Court to allow clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The ACLU has just submitted a writ of mandamus to the New Mexico Supreme Court, asking for a ruling on same-sex marriage.

    Wouldn’t surprise me.

what a schtick, what a voice, what a gal!!!

  16. Thom Allen says:

Of course if Caraboobie had sung it and changed it to “the land of the Teas” and the “home of the depraved,” West would have proposed a bill to change it permanently.

On second thought, Caraboobie couldn’t have sung it, she’d never have remembered all of the words.

  17. Thom Allen says:

Along with Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas and E. W. Jackson are the new black leadership or the Republicon party. Going from the boisterous brain benighted to the silent sleeping sycophants.

  18. Monoceros Forth says:

I expect some GOP congresscritter now to promulgate a bill to prevent any alteration of the lyrics of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in a public performance.

    Ain’t she somethin’!

  20. karmanot says:

If mental patient Allen West is outraged, then all is well in the world.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica accidentally approves same-sex marriage

  22. BeccaM says:

Apparently former-Rep Allen West and other wingnuts have their undies in a twist over the fact Lady Gaga changed a few of the words.

Lady Gaga sang The Star-Spangled Banner at the New York Gay Pride Parade on Friday, but replaced “star-spangled banner” with “star-spangled flag of pride” and replaced “home of the brave” with “home for the gays.”
