India’s former top shrink: Homosexuality is “unnatural,” can be cured

I suppose this is a bad news / good news post concerning gay rights in India, and attitudes in that country towards gay people.

Recently gays and lesbians in India suffered a huge setback when a Division Bench ruling of India’s Supreme Court re-criminalized homosexuality after four years of it having been legal to be gay.

In a front-page article on 21 January (Tuesday) in the Times of India, former president of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), Dr. Indira Sharma, was questioned about her remarks three days earlier at a meeting of the IPS in which she referred to homosexuality as “unnatural.”

Indira Sharma

Indira Sharma

At the meeting, Sharma also said that those who were uncomfortable with their sexual orientation should seek psychiatric treatment, presumably to be cured of same-sex desires.

This, despite all of the independent and unbiased scientific — and psychiatric — research indicating that sexual orientation cannot be cured psychiatrically, psychologically, or by any other means. And moreover, that such attempts to “cure” someone of being gay nearly always does more harm than good.

Indeed, all of the legitimate, peer-reviewed research would indicate that a person who is conflicted with their sexual orientation is better served by helping with acceptance, rather than rejection and repression of same-sex attractions.

Basically, Dr. Sharma’s message is that gay people should be ashamed to be gay, and should avoid bothering anybody by staying deep in the closet.

In the Times of India interview, Sharma is quoted as saying, “The manner in which homosexuals have brought talk of sex to the roads makes people uncomfortable. It’s unnatural.”

The article went on:

She explained to the Times of India, “There are some who are comfortable [with their orientation], but there are many who are not. The latter should realize they can get help (from psychiatrists). Some of them may even be able to change their orientation.”

The paper also summarized Sharma as adding that “those comfortable with their orientation should be made aware that their behaviour was causing a lot of uneasiness in society.”

No stranger to controversy, and willing to express notions even the rather conservative Indian society finds…well, odd and unhelpful, at the last IPS meeting in January 2013, Dr. Sharma sparked additional controversy by suggesting that violence against women could be curbed by encouraging young men to marry as early as possible.

Sharma (…) had claimed early marriage “preferably in early 20s or as soon as the boy gets employed” could curb violence against women. Early marriages were recommended so that “sexual needs are satisfied in an appropriate manner.”

Yeah, right… I find myself feeling more and more sorry for Dr. Sharma’s patients, assuming she’s ever actually treated real human beings. (Her bio lists her as an academic at Banaras Hindu University.)

Fortunately, the Times of India, although it didn’t go terribly far in refuting Dr. Sharma’s contrary-to-science opinions, did at least quote Dr. Harish Shetty as saying, “Same-sex orientation needs to be accepted as normal. Sexual orientation has different dimensions and should be tackled compassionately. This will help many come out of the closet. Mental health professionals need to accept the differences and bring down distress.”

Now then, I did promise this was a bad news / good news post. Dr. Sharma’s ignorance and homophobia were the bad news.

The good news is twofold. First of all, despite having been president of the IPS, her views clearly do not represent the views of the entire Indian psychiatric discipline. In 2009, the IPS had written open letters to a number of newspapers in support of the court ruling which decriminalized Section 377 (India’s ban on homosexuality).

Secondly, Dr. Sharma gave that speech over the weekend at the IPS meeting as that organization’s outgoing president. Here’s hoping she’s replaced by someone more enlightened and less irrationally bigoted against LGBT people. And with an education in human sexuality, and psychiatry, more recent than the 19th century.

i agree with her. I used to have fetishes and i cured them quite easliy, it wasnt difficult at all, it is naive to say sexual desire can not change

it is really on through fear and abuse that many therapists will not say this openly

I just don’t know why are we people wasting our time on such stupid discussions. Is it that we give a damn to these heterophobes including that bitch Dr. Sharma? We don’t, do we?
For the western people, it doesn’t make a difference in their lifestyles, whatsoever opinion is held by such demons, as homosexuality is legal in there.
For us, the developing & under-developed countries’ residents, homosexuality is always going to be illegal in the near future, your opinions & explanations are not gonna make the least impact, so why waste energy & time?

Do you realize my dilemma, or rather helplessness? I’m a strong supporter of the oppressed people (whom, none other than them, have termed themselves to be ‘LGBT’ and quarantined themselves from the society), but still, I shall vote for the BJP in upcoming national elections in India, this May, who have declared it quite clearly that they WILL continue this ban on homosexuality. As other option we have the Congress, which the entire nation is sick of, and whose all the policies, except on this (sexuality) matter, have ruined the country.

    How unfortunate is that.. :(

Dr. Indira Sharma needs to see a legitimate shrink to “cure” her own 19th century views on human sexuality! Homosexuality is an innate human sexual orientation. It’s isn’t “unnatural.” It isn’t acquired. Young people aren’t recruited into the “gay lifestyle” by those pushy gays. And, most importantly, IT CAN’T BE CURED!

As for her views on rape being a natural expectation if young men aren’t married off at an early age, how is that any different from these village elders in India who ordered a dozen men to gang rape a young woman for the crime of falling in love with a man from a different ethnic group?

Twelve men plus the leader of the village council have been arrested for the gang-rape of a young woman who dared fall in love with a man from a different ethnic group:

Interesting. Your concept of “natural” when speaking of “the survival of the human race” is on the face of it , twisted logic. The Wolf will hunt the young , weak and injured in a herd because it is easier prey. “Nature” uses this also to increase the resilience of the herd. If humans were nothing more than the mammals of the field , would not eugenics be a natural and logical answer to many of our social and economic problems? But if you believe that humans have evolved into a {somewhat} higher form of life with all the complexities that go with it [ I.E. emotional attachments ,courage ,self sacrifice , greed ,love , hate and so on.] Then the definition of “natural” in the human race is also much more complex. Two humans falling in love regardless of their equipment is very much natural and a natural part of the evolving relationship that humans have with one another.

as a gay member of indian lgbt community, i can inform you that these people not only affect us in a bad way, but in whole, the core value of this country.

  21. Ninong says:

Dr. Sharma clearly thinks homosexual orientation is “unnatural” but the male urge to rape women is natural and must be contained by confining men to marriage as early as possible. I think it’s unnatural for women to stick ornamental studs in their noses. Is that supposed to make them more attractive to men?

  22. Drew2U says:

  25. BeccaM says:

All I could think when I read her statement about men needing to marry early was that Dr. Sharma clearly does not understand the impulses behind rape and sexual assault. As ignorant and narrow-minded as she is about human sexuality, she doesn’t even seem to grasp that rape is not about the sex.

    It’s about power. And violence.

A wannabe rapist does not actually want a ‘legitimate’ outlet for his urges. And a decent man of any age doesn’t need a wife to not want to rape women.

  28. BeccaM says:

No worries — I spent three years living in India (Andhra Pradesh mainly) and came to love both the country and her people. As near as I have been able to tell, Indian culture changed due mainly to the British occupation, which is the same time they imposed their ultra-conservative and repressed sexuality practices on India.

One need only visit a few pre-Raj era temples to see that India was not always so… narrow minded about sex. And after all, let’s not forget that Lord Krishna certainly did not limit himself to a single gender expression.

  29. Ninong says:

Have no fear, no one here is considering Hinduism, or any other religion, as the cause of Dr. Indira Sharma’s ignorance. Her views seem to have been shaped by Queen Victoria more than anything else.

She says that she bases her claims about homosexuality being something that can be cured on her actual medical experience and I believe her. Unfortunately that part is probably true. Her speciality is child psychiatry and women’s healh issues. No doubt many Indian parents have brought their gay or lesbian teenagers to Dr. Sharma asking for her help in making their child “normal” and she has succeeded in getting many of them to acquiesce to their parents wishes that they marry and produce grandchildren. In Dr. Sharma’s mind, that represents success and she has “cured” them of their “unnatural” same-sex attraction.

We have a few quack psychiatrists like Dr. Sharma over here in the US but fortunately the great majority of the medical profession recognizes homosexuality as an innate sexual orientation and not an acquired trait or a “lifestyle” they were “recruited” into.

  30. Naja pallida says:

I’m definitely an Indian born, and currently resident in conservative India, & I do approve of the western criticism (though, a large number of people do hold the contrary view) of India regarding this aspect. Sorry to say, but India IS ignorant atleast in this regard. I don’t know where from this extreme views started to be held by Hindus, believe me western people, India is a land of Hindus, & we were not originally such exclusive, we all know whose domain is that. In fact our highest religious book, The Gita, also mentions that all such things, which prima facie seem to be “unnatural”, have essentially originated from Me (the almighty). All the human emotions (even those which we consider “bad”) have emerged from Me, and Lord Krishna exemplifies that argument by saying that even gambling is a part of His Being. Sorry for being too religious, but ascribe this intolerance of Indians to ignorance – influenced by reasons only He knows – not to Hinduism.
And regarding that psycho Dr. Sharma, we find such lunatic docs every now and then here, fortunately we also find sane ones like Dr. Shetty…

  37. jomicur says:

  38. Thom Allen says:

I think this one is salmon, or maybe sea snake.

  39. Ninong says:

It’s obvious that the penis evolved to fit into the vagina. It wasn’t “designed” that way, it evolved over time. That isn’t an argument for or against anything. It’s a fact of nature, just like it’s a fact of nature that some individuals are born with an innate sexual attraction for the same sex. It isn’t a learned trait or something they were “recruited” into by those pushy gays. They were born that way.

You’re preaching to the wrong choir on this forum. Get over yourself.

  47. Ninong says:

    Medice, cura te ipsum.

This woman is clearly a quack and the IPS knew it as soon as she delivered her very first speech last January. Her suggestions on how to curb violence against women were so controversial that the IPS convened a special meeting on whether her speech should be published. That was her incoming address. Her outgoing address is the one where she claimed that some homosexuals could be “cured” of their “unnatural” sexual orientation.

Here’s what Dr. Sharma told the Times of India last January to explain her theory on how to curb violence against women. “Parents lose 50% control on their child once he starts working. He has no responsibilities, has extra time and money. He can take to alcohol and lose his frame of mind and commit sexual crimes.”

“Marriage is a protection against crime. One of its advantages is that it is a socially acceptable channel for sexual desire. Ideally, both men and women should marry between 21 and 25,” she added.

Her speciality is child psychiatry and women’s mental health issues. She’s not only a full professor of psychiatry, she’s head of the department of psychiatry at her university. Such a pity.

Can you imagine the advice she has been giving her patients? She believes that the way to reduce violence against women is for the young men to be married off as soon as they have a job so that they will have something else to spend their money on as well as a lawful way to satisfy their sexual needs. And if a gay patient comes to her for help, she will “cure” them if that is what they wish. Can you imagine the number of parents who have brought their gay teenager to this quack over the years asking her to “cure” their child of his/her “unnatural” same-sex attraction.

  48. Thom Allen says:

Jay, your innate lack of knowledge about human reproduction is showing, again. The penis DOESN’T contain sperm. The semen (not just the “sperm”) briefly passes through the penis during ejaculation. Only then. So, please “bone up” (if you can) on male anatomy and male reproduction before you show off your stupidity the next time.

  50. mirror says:

First of all, your first falacy (phallusy?): the penis was not “designed” for anything. Sexual organs in living creatures evolved. A huge percentage of the evolved attributes of living creatures, and certainly humans and other mammals, carry out more than one function, or even have no current recognizable function.

Secondly, as noted below, in many primate species, physical intimacy we would call “sexual”, serves as much of a social function as it does a procreative function.

I’m not sure why so many of us are responding to a troll like you today. Must be something in the alignment of Mars and Venus, or something.

  51. Thom Allen says:

You’re very wrong, see above, and look at the anatomy.

  52. Thom Allen says:

If you look closely at the anatomy, the penis is designed to fit over the groove in the center of the man’s prostate during anal intercourse. The underside of the penis looks like it was designed just for that purpose. So, you see, with the penis in the rectum, the head and later the shaft, will stimulate the prostate as it slides over the groove. Just the way God designed it to do.
It also fits very well in the mouth.

But I’m sure that you, Kenny Cucchinelli and frothy don’t know anything about that.

However, people use their digestive system for all sorts of other things — birthday parties, romantic dinners, enjoying the taste of gourmet food. People eat for all sort of reasons — not all of them specifically for nourishment. Only animals eat solely for nourishment.

Along the same lines, to reduce the sex act to simply pumping out babies is what animals do. Your claims would make humans the same as animals — and remove the human element from sex altogether. Very demeaning.

Here is an article that Dr. Sharma co-authored in an Indian journal. It seems more a cultural anthropology article than a psychiatric one. Note how she, and her co-authors feel about marriage as the crowning achievement of a woman’s life. And how important the woman’s role is in the family – of course, all the wile in a subservient role. There’s much talk of how the dowry is so important since the woman is essentially sold into the marriage. And many more religious, right-wing sentiments.;year=2013;volume=55;issue=6;spage=243;epage=249;aulast=Sharma It seems like very little research s cited for much of what they describe in the article. A lot seems to be just statements about Indian culture and religious beliefs and how they impact on marriage.

Also, Dr. Sharma seems to have had a problem with her son having some serious mental health issues just a few years ago. Perhaps that’s genetic. I don’t have any scientific evidence for that, just a cultural and religious belief on my part. Perhaps I’ll write an article on that . . .

  72. The_Fixer says:

The human body came about through evolution. Natural selection. We weren’t designed, the human body developed over the course of millions of years, what see today is the current “end result.” We will likely change as humans many, many years in the future (assuming we don’t wipe ourselves out by our hand).

To say that we were designed, and that you claim to have looked at the plans is ridiculous.

  73. BeccaM says:

So I suppose you feel that masturbation is an abomination against the ‘natural,’ yes? I do so hope you’ve never self-pleasured since you’re using that penis for a purpose that isn’t procreative.

In terms of survival of the human race, like many other hominid species — and indeed other species in nature — we have evolved sexuality into a social tool, a means of increasing group and interpersonal cohesion. This is why human females are sexually receptive year round, and not just during fertile times.

You really should drop those blinders and look at the bigger picture.

  74. The_Fixer says:

Evolutionary speaking, the penis is obviously designed for the vagina.

No more than it is designed for anywhere else it fits. If it were solely designed for procreation, then it wouldn’t feel good if you shove it in any bodily orifice that can accommodate it.

But let’s run with that errorfull line of reason for the moment. You mean to tell me that everyone who inserts a penis into a vagina expects, or even wants procreation to be the final result?

Nah, that is not the case. People insert body-part-A into body-part-B for reasons other than procreation. To express love, as a means of sexual release, or simply because it feels good.

Your point is not particularly well thought-out.

  75. Strepsi says:

Red Herring. This woman is talking about “converting” gay people psychologically, or making sure they do not upset straight people. Penis function is a red herring.

  76. jomicur says:

In one short post you argue that 1) homosexuality is unnatural, and 2) homosexuality is natural but that shouldn’t count for anything. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. What makes right-wingers so damn smart?

You write, “In terms of survival of the human race, homosexuality IS unnatural..” What proof do you have of this? Can you name even one species that went extinct because of homosexuality? Even one? Because if you can’t, you really need to shut up and stop making a fool of yourself.

  77. Drew2U says:

Your premise is RIDICULOUS—“Natural–existing in or caused by nature.” Homosexuality is found in more than 1500 species of animal on the earth. NEXT.

  78. Strepsi says:

    That is true Jay T.
Yet, not really germane to this Dr. Sharma’s statements or intentions or obvious homophobia.

It is also a logical fallacy to say “Reproductive sex is natural (true Jay T) THEREFORE homosexual sex is unnatural (does not naturally follow).

  79. Whitewitch says:

Address this one superstar! Why do men like to have anal sex with women. Why do men like to have their women folk play with their sphincter. And why oh why do men like to put their Penis’ in other orificies…..because it feels good.

Sex is NOT just about procreation….so let us drop that silly talk – okay.

Yet you are going to use the Penis/Vagina talk to prove your point. If it were true that Penis’ should only go in vaginas….there are a lot of Straight Men that would be going to jail.

  80. HolyMoly says:

“And for those who say “Well, it happens in nature, therefore it’s natural”, all you have to remember is that, “in nature”, some species eat their own children. Are you gonna take moral guidance for humans from that?”

First you assume that humans observe natural homosexual tendencies in other creatures and simply COPY what they observe, as if it does not occur naturally in humans. It DOES occur naturally in the human species, and that is why some people are gay and some are straight. It could possibly be a natural (yes, natural) means of population control. We don’t copy what we observe in other species and “eat our own children” (the strawman cometh) — it’s not a natural tendency, therefore we don’t do it.

Everything humans conceive of and create is nature. Skyscrapers are natural objects just as beehives or birds’ nests. By nature we have the ability to conceive and create these things and they are therefore natural. By the same token, we also have — by nature — the ability to conceive of alternate forms of procreation (which would also be natural). In vitro fertilization, surrogate mothers, “test tube babies.”

With that in mind, homosexuality is NOT a threat to the survival of the human race. That’s among the most asinine arguments made by frothers like yourself. If some sort of perfect storm occurred where 100% of the human race was gay, gays the world over would do what was necessary to create children. Whether by in vitro or “taking one for the team,” it would get done. Many gays have, in fact, used in vitro to create their own children. Your argument on that point is bunk.

  81. dula says:

Oh, that must be why there are so many pregnant Kleenex.

  82. Whitewitch says:

It is sad that she feels this way, perhaps Dr. Sharma could get some therapy for her condition of “hatred”. In a country where rape is a game and goes unpunished, where burning women is okay and where a class system which includes “outcasts”s…I can expect no more than this.

  83. Monophylos Fortikos says:

Ew, is that a proposition? I don’t think you’re my type. I like them a little smarter if nothing else.

  85. Jay T says:

    Ok then. Have at it.

  86. Jay T says:

Jesus freak? Are you avoiding the main point on purpose? Evolutionary speaking, the penis is obviously designed for the vagina.

  87. Monophylos Fortikos says:

It’s so silly when the Jesus freaks try to grasp for pseudo-scientific explanations to justify their bigotry. “Gay sex is against nature!” “But what about examples A and B and C from nature?” “Ugh, you want us to take our moral lessons from nature?” It’d be better if they stuck to the usual “God sez it’s bad” posture, since it’s more consistent.

  88. Jay T says:

Don’t over-literalize “design”. The gay man still carries sperm, so he is still biologically “designed” for reproduction, regardless of what’s going on in his mind.

  89. Jay T says:

Red herring. The penis is biologically designed for the vagina, regardless of other potential pleasures.

  90. Jay T says:

And my point is that, biologically speaking, regardless of the pleasure involved, the gay man’s penis still contains sperm, and so he is still biologically programmed to reproduction, regardless of attractions in his mind.

  91. Jay T says:

I agree that the mind of a gay person may push him towards members of the same sex (for whatever reason). But that doesn’t change the fact that his testicles still contain SPERM. For WHATEVER is going on in his mind, his body is still designed for procreation. I’m not saying he is bad if he doesn’t achieve this, but it’s still his biologically natural course.

  92. Monophylos Fortikos says:

The penis is designed for the vagina, that much is obvious.

Well, no, since nothing is “designed” in biology. Biology is full of structures adapted for one purpose but used for another and, in fact, a driving force behind evolutionary change is that a structure that serves one function turns out to be useful for another.

  93. Strepsi says:

It is YOU who proposes taking moral guidance from nature. We are simply pointing even your own logic fails.

  94. Jay T says:

    Still avoiding the main point.

  95. Strepsi says:

It is in no way the main point. It is designed to be able to procreate, true — though that is not its only functuion. Homosexual sexual activity — for pleasure — is natural in hundreds of species, including humans. As well, it is a natural part of human sexual desire, which IS the main point for the head of Psychiatry.

  96. Monophylos Fortikos says:

In terms of survival of the human race, homosexuality IS unnatural.

Fortunately Jesus is coming back soon so the survival of the human race is immaterial and I can have as much unnatural sex as I like.

  97. Jay T says:

Are you avoiding the main point on purpose? The penis is designed for the vagina, that much is obvious. Arguments about overpopulation, unnatural gay parenting, etc… are all besides the point. The penis is OBVIOUSLY designed for the vagina. Heterophobes like people on this site will never admit to this obvious reality.

  98. Strepsi says:

Also, we are not talking about the body — we are talking about the MIND, and psychiatry, and all scientific studies show that homosexual attraction IS natural; it is a natural part of the spectrum of human sexual desire.

  99. Strepsi says:

I am glad to hear that straight people only ever have sex for procreation, 15,000 years of factual evidence to the contrary be damned.

  100. Drew2U says:

…Hilarious. If you’ve had sex for ANY OTHER REASON than procreation, then I’m afraid your argument is trash. Next.

  101. dula says:

The point was that sex is for pleasure, not only for procreation.

  102. Strepsi says:

“In terms of survival of the human race”???!!! God I hate this bit of non-logic you and other brainiacs like Putin use. If 5% of the population has same-sex sex, how on earth would that affect the SEVEN BILLION people in the human race? In fact, all scientific evidence is that for Earth’s resources to survive human population we should not have more than 4 billion, so for the survival of the human race you’d better hope a lot more people turn exclusively gay.

And don’t even get me started on the fact that in addition tosame-sex sex, many gay people DO also reproduce naturally (statistically mostly in the Bible belt) and many other gay couples become adoptive parents to kids from horrible straight parents who never wanted them & abandoned them.

  103. Jay T says:

Leaving the insult aside, overpopulation isn’t the point. Yes, I agree that it’s possible that people being gay may help curb overpopulation. It’s still not what the body is designed for though.

  104. dula says:

I bet she plays a mean game of field hockey.

  105. dula says:

If straight people would have sex ONLY when they wanted to produce offspring, the world wouldn’t be overpopulated with so many unwanted people like you.

  106. Jay T says:

Typical liberal “logic”. Hey nicho, did you know the penis has something else in it called “sperm” (yes, even gay men have sperm)? Guess what? That’s not meant for your mouth or your anus. It’s “designed” for something called “reproduction”. And the only recipient designed for sperm is the vagina. Your mouth or your anus can do nothing with it.

  107. nicho says:

Actually, the penis fits in the mouth and the anus quite easily also. Your pseudo-scientific homophobia is invalid.

  108. Jay T says:

In terms of survival of the human race, homosexuality IS unnatural. The penis is obviously designed for the vagina, and vice versa (gays just refuse to acknowledge this simple reality). And just because heterosexual relationships break down sometimes, doesn’t mean it’s not the ideal. It is.

And for those who say “Well, it happens in nature, therefore it’s natural”, all you have to remember is that, “in nature”, some species eat their own children. Are you gonna take moral guidance for humans from that?

Gays are born with the same penis that is compatible with the same vagina. If they’re not using it towards it’s biological purpose, that’s their choice. And as long as they’re not hurting anyone, that’s fine. But to call it “natural” is to stick your head in the ground.

  109. RepubAnon says:

Given that there are more men than women in India, her proposed solution for violence against women seems as delusional as her recommendations to the gay population. To paraphrase Shakespeare: The fault, Dr Sharma, lies not in your stars but in your prejudices.

  110. Monophylos Fortikos says:

Sharma (…) had claimed early marriage “preferably in early 20s or as soon as the boy gets employed” could curb violence against women. Early marriages were recommended so that “sexual needs are satisfied in an appropriate manner.”

Look how well that’s worked out in the American Bible belt.

  111. 4th Turning says:

There is a “clinic” in Minnesota where she can expect a very warm welcome.
Great to see our millennials finally getting a wholesome, healthy handle on the junk medicine once
trusted experts carpet-bombed us with and moving on to address the long shopping list of urgent
problems they’ve inherited from that same mindset generation.

  112. jomicur says:

Translation: “It is not natural for ME, therefore it is unnatural for EVERYONE!” We really need to start calling these bigots out on their pathological narcissism.

  113. It really isn’t surprising and there are people here in the GOP that thing the same way.

  114. cole3244 says:

i think a better description of indira sharma would be head case not head shrink.

  115. kevinbgoode says:

Another insecure heterosupremacist at work. Modus operandi: We are going to do everything possible to ridicule gay people, make them uncomfortable, ostracize them socially, punish them financially, and oppress them in every part of society. Then we are going to justify our superiority by creating junk science, imagining a religious belief based on our own self-centered personal image, and not only constantly threaten you with an everlasting burning in hell, but do everything possible to create that hell for you on earth from cradle to grave. As we do all of these things to you, if you exhibit any signs of anxiety or emotional and physical stress, we have great news: we can cure you by training you to be just like us – and you can feel better about yourself because we feel great reassuring ourselves that we truly are superior and thus were completely justified making your life so uncomfortable.

The truly sad part is that this woman appears to not have enough self-awareness to seek the help she clearly needs for herself.

  116. HolyMoly says:

So despite all the research and data to the contrary, “Dr.” Sharma still insists on holding fast to an outdated notion that has been discredited time and again. Scientific method appears to be an alien concept to her, which, I think, should be a bedrock principle of science and medicine, and one of many mandatory prerequisites needed to earn a PhD.

She’s not much different from the creation “scientists” who start with a conclusion and then work backwards, tailoring their experiments in such a way that the result is what they want it to be. In this case, she has a preconceived notion (a prejudice), and she flippantly ignores any data that contradicts her beliefs (which makes me wonder about HER mental health). Good riddance to her. She should never have been president of IPS, but at least now she’s out.

  117. Drew2u says:

John Stewart had a great bit last night about international homophobia and cited India early on in the bit. It was kind of great, but the messaging at the end was a bit muddled.

  118. Strepsi says:

    Dear Dr. Indira Sharma:

  119. woodroad34 says:

Has she been sleeping with Mark Regnerus? One has to wonder why she’s a “former” head shrink
