Westboro Baptist Church sets sights on Kim Davis

The Westboro Baptist Church would like everyone to know that, despite being on the same page with Kim Davis as far as same-sex marriage is concerned, they don’t want her on their team.

The heinously anti-gay Phelps clan is all about adhering to the Bible’s sexual restrictions in the strictest terms possible. All of them. And they aren’t the first to notice that while Kim Davis has Leviticus 18:22 covered, that’s about as far as her piety extends.

Adultery? Check.

Divorce? Check, check and check.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Kim Davis.

For Westboro, this will not stand. From NBC:

Referring to Jeremiah 3:20 — the King James version of which reads, “Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD” — WBC undertook a P.R. campaign over the weekend, attacking the thrice-divorced (and legally remarried) Kim Davis in a string of Tweets and YouTube videos as an “oath breaker” and a “lawbreaker” — meaning, of course, God’s law.

As the group clarified in a statement, “Proud adulterers who divorce/remarry and refuse to call it a sin are no more a WBC member than a proud fag.” In order for Davis to get back in their good graces, she will need to divorce her fourth husband — who they don’t recognize as her actual husband — and return to her first husband.

Because that’s how Biblical marriage works, apparently.

While WBC’s message obviously doesn’t square with the other arguments against Davis — they have no problem with putting Davis in jail, but for her adultery; not for her refusal to follow the law in her capacity as a public official — the fact that they and the LGBT community are at odds with the same person highlights how absurd this whole saga was. Kim Davis was so, so wrong on this issue — her opinions so obviously grounded in hatred as opposed to piety — that it had the most pointedly anti-gay group in the country shooting out tweets that could easily have been written by one of us.

To be clear, their solution at the end of the day is to throw same-sex couples in jail along with Kim Davis, or worse. But their campaign against Davis at least puts an exclamation point on what was a week of repeated hypocrisies from America’s most infamous county clerk.

Are bigots the only ones allowed to express their deeply-held religious beliefs?

I don’t read anything in the 1st that prevents hate-groups from doing the same.

As an atheist, in what court of law do my deeply-rooted beliefs count over theirs?

Never mind, as the more this bullshit is allowed to continue, the fuckedupper we become!

It would seem that Davis has surrendered. Maybe.

What if a clerk denied #KimDavis a license for her 2nd/3rd/4th marriage because Christ calls it adultery?

I really wish the demented hyper-religious would have a conclave and figure out exactly which sins we need to be stoned to death for, and which ones we don’t. I find it very confusing when trying to choose the sin I intend to commit next.
