Conservative hate group sending men into women’s bathroom at Target

The American Family Association announced earlier this week that they will be “testing” Target’s policy that allows customer and employees to use the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity. And by “testing” they mean “sending men into women’s bathrooms.”

As the group’s director of governmental affairs, Sandy Rios, told Breitbart News Daily, “I think there’s no question that when you say that there are no barriers in the bathroom, and that if men or women feel like they are men or women, the opposition of however they are equipped, and you have no restrictions, the net effect will be that people will not be stopped. We’ve already had people testing this, going into Targets and men trying to go into bathrooms. There is absolutely no barrier.”

Setting aside for the moment that the men who the American Family Association will be sending into these bathrooms are likely to be, as Josh Marshall quipped, “what probably amount to men’s rights activists,” there’s an odd new logic behind this “test.” The American Family Association isn’t quite saying that trans women are predators, per se, as has been the case in the past. Instead, they’re saying that trans women don’t exist, because trans isn’t a thing, and that trans-inclusive policies open the door for actual predators — who may choose to identify as trans for the purpose of being a predator — to wreak havoc in the ladies’ room.

Either way, this “test” sounds an awful lot like the voter fraud “tests” that conservative activists have conducted in recent years trying to prove that Democrats are the moral equivalent of the mob — engaging in voter fraud and campaign finance violations in an attempt to prove how easy it would be for Democrats to do the same thing. He almost always comes up with nothing. That is, unless he commits the fraud himself.

Most recently, conservative activist James O’Keefe called a press conference to alert reporters to the fact that he had “caught” Hillary Clinton’s campaign engaging in campaign finance violations by selling a campaign shirt to someone who then gave the shirt to a foreign citizen. As it turned out, Clinton’s campaign had not broken the law, but O’Keefe probably did.

All this is to say that when conservatives warn us that a progressive policy has left the door open for all kinds of bad things to happen, they’re projecting. The only people we have to watch out for are the people warning us to watch out.

Conservative men are now infinitely more likely than trans women to use the wrong bathroom at Target.

It takes a really deep and special kind of stupid to conflate ‘transgender’ with ‘dude wearing a dress’.

Really?! I’m more worried about Catholic priests with little boys and southern Baptist preachers with my little girls than someone who hasn’t figured what they are yet.

  8. derpsaywhat says:

“Hate groups?” That is what we call protesters we don’t agree with? How about “terrorist?” That’s a good one too.

  9. crazymonkeylady says:

Separate bathrooms for Catholic priests please.

  10. Don Chandler says:

Another covert GOP bathroom investigator (there are many more) was Bob Allen:

I’m sure they have many ways to figure out who is what and who is not.

  11. Naja pallida says:

Maybe he can teach us all the language of the under-stall toe-tap so we can adequately communicate with Republican perverts who are dedicating their time to being concerned with how other people use the bathroom.

  12. Don Chandler says:

They (GOP) sent larry craig to heterosexual bathrooms. That worked out nicely … for Larry Craig and the GOP.

  13. Glen Thompson says:

Guess I don’t have to worry about any of this as I would never set foot in Target. Come to think of it I couldn’t anyway as the majority north of the border have closed. Oh well.

  15. BeccaM says:

I wasn’t aware that respecting the dignity and basic biological needs of people was something conservatives hated.

  16. BeccaM says:

Transgender people are being told they must endure discrimination — to the point of fines and possible jail time — simply for using a public restroom… because non-transgender sexually predatory heterosexual males may assault women. That is the definition of both fucked up and punishing the wrong people.

I’ll say it again, I have never feared a transwoman in the women’s restroom. I have feared the skeevy-looking dudes I have at times seen hanging around just outside because one non-locking door isn’t going to stop them if the mean harm. And on one occasion that did happen to me, there was exactly that scenario — a woman I thought might be trans in the restroom with me and a very disreputable and suspicious-looking guy lingering just outside the door for no discernible reason. Our conversation went like this:

Me: “Excuse me, but that guy just out there — is he with you?”
Woman (just washing up): “No, but I was nervous just coming in here. But I couldn’t not.”
Me: “You mind sticking around until I’m done? I think it’d be better if we left together.”
    Her: “Yes! Thank you.”

When we left, the guy was still there — and he looked kinda angry. So we went to the security desk together and reported him. They sent a guard…and the guy fled.

Guns make it easier for criminals to commit crimes. Can we get laws against them too?

  18. Rolland Green says:

I guess you have not seen the drones at Sanders rallies huh?

  19. Rolland Green says:

Wow. That’s very civil of you. Another example of the tolerant left?

  20. Rolland Green says:

Again, due to progressive polices, it makes it that much easier for criminals to commit crimes regardless of their ideology.

  21. Bill_Perdue says:

Please. I don’t believe for a minute that Democrats or their Republican brothers and sisters are capable of passing decent legislation.

That would be as delusional as thinking that HRH HRC is not a bigot.

  22. derpsaywhat says:

    atta boy.

  23. Houndentenor says:

The watered down ENDA didn’t pass. Do you think one without exemptions or that included trans people could have passed in Congress? You are delusional.

  24. Houndentenor says:

I’m seeing things on social media from low-information idiotic relatives that claim that men would just be able to use the women’s restroom because they happen to feel like a woman that day (or claim to) as if that is at all what anyone is talking about. The derangement of that crowd is horrifying (see: Ted Cruz and Donald Trump supporters).

  25. koonoruk says:

ignorant rubes gonna get shot if they pull this shit when my wife is in there,, trans i dont mind but perverted republican tweeks? fair game.

  26. Bill_Perdue says:

The mixture of superstition and politics produces concoctions that range from lethal, as in the shocking murder rate of young trans people of color by right wing thugs, to silly.

Much of this latest round in the ‘culture wars’ would be superfluous if the Democrats had enacted a broad ENDA, without Barney Franks disgusting concessions to christer bigots, when they controlled the Congress and WH in 2009-10. One of the reasons they lost so badly in 2010 and again in 2014 was the rage of people who discovered that they’d elected Obama, a scam artist who broke all his promises.

What’s needed is either a broad ENDA or a Civil Rights Amendment with robust anti-discrimination provisions for housing, employment and accommodations and no more sleazy concessions to the cults by Democrats.

”PRINCETON, N.J. — In 2015, for the fifth consecutive year, at least four in 10 U.S. adults identified as political independents. The 42% identifying as independents in 2015 was down slightly from the record 43% in 2014. This elevated percentage of political independents leaves Democratic (29%) and Republican (26%) identification at or near recent low points, with the modest Democratic advantage roughly where it has been over the past five years.”

“Democratic turnout has fallen drastically since 2008, the last time the party had a contested primary, with roughly three million fewer Democrats voting in the 15 states that held caucuses or primaries through Tuesday, according to unofficial election results. It declined in virtually every state, dropping by roughly 50 percent in states like Minnesota and Texas. In Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia, the number of Democrats voting decreased by roughly a third.”

“The fall-off in Democratic primary turnout — which often reveals whether a candidate is exciting voters and attracting them to the polls — reached deeply into some of the core groups of voters Mrs. Clinton must not only win in November, but turn out in large numbers. It stands in sharp contrast to the flood of energized new voters showing up at the polls to vote for Donald J. Trump in the Republican contest.”

  27. Naja pallida says:

Anything at all to avoid talking about issues that actually really matter.

  28. The_Fixer says:

This amounts to nothing more than a distraction aimed at those who are ignorant of human nature, and an attempt to keep the those ignoramuses “signed up” in the R column.

It’s an attempt to turn a non-problem into something worthy of outrage. “Remember, vote Republican if you don’t want this outrageousness to spread!” It’s transparent and stupid. It’s also par for the course – Republicans routinely deny science – whether it concerns climate change, human sexuality, gender identity or anything that threatens the status quo.

At the root of all of this, of course, is the desire to ignore inconvenient truths and the go-to tactic to support their intellectual laziness is to invoke extreme religiousity. The minute someone justifies such blatant ignorance with religion, there are two things one must do: fight to preserve the truth and keep an eye on your wallet.
